I am an experienced clinical psychologist, licensed in California and Ohio, with a specialized focus on supporting those whose suffering is internalized, or silent and invisible to most.

This invisible suffering is often related to a developed internalized or overcontrolled (OC) way of coping with trauma and challenges in life combined with a threat-sensitive bio-temperament and reinforcing factors. This internalized/OC coping is not inherently maladaptive; in fact, it can be a superpower in many contexts (and we want to maintain and celebrate that!).

However, in excess, this can show up as hyper-perfectionism, rumination, masking, rigidity, and emotional disconnect or loneliness to name a few examples, as well as ongoing conditions, such as refractory depression, chronic anxiety and panic, restriction-based eating disorders, and certain personality styles or disorders (e.g., Avoidant or Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder).

I am Level 3 intensively trained in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT), an evidence-based practice designed specifically to address maladaptive overcontrol and internalizing disorders and to move toward openness to the present moment and growth, connectedness, and flexible control. Over the last 17 years of clinical experience, I have helped individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan effect values-oriented changes in their lives.

If you are struggling with overcontrol/internalizing disorders (see additional areas of focus) and are curious about taking the next step, please feel free to reach out for a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. Through active and collaborative partnership, using various skills-based and client(s)-values-led approaches, we can make meaningful changes that empower a more authentic and connected life, aligned with what is important to you.
